This year's SZTE Alma Mater's exercise challenge pays tribute to our alumna, the Nobel laureate Katalin Karikó. Let's visit the important places of her life together virtually!
If it's spring, then the SZTE Alma Mater challenge is here again, where we count on your individual results to find out which faculty or unit will be the most athletic and active in spring 2024!
The essence of the SZTE Let's do this! 2024 program is that the citizens of the university - former and current students and employees - move "together" for 9 weeks. They can share their results achieved by running, cycling or walking with the Alma Mater community on the uniszegedalumni.com website, and with the collected kilometres they can support their chosen community.
As every year, in addition to the individual and faculty competition, a joint goal will be announced, which requires kilometers. In addition to your individual collection (walking, running, hiking, cycling, etc.), we also advertise a competition between faculties, so it is also worth joining for those who are just getting to know the joy of movement, because with us, every kilometer and every extra person counts. Which faculty will be the most athletic, and so who will get the farthest? Which faculty will be the most active, and so who can activate their community the most?
Duration of the challenge:
April 8, 2024 - June 8, 2024
The purpose of the challenge:
To increase the motivation for regular physical activity and to promote a healthy lifestyle by involving as many university students as possible.
What type of exercise can be used to collect kilometres?
- walking/hiking
- running
- cycling
- other: swimming, self-powered water sports equipment
The chosen activities can be performed both outdoors and in a gym (treadmill, indoor bike, rowing bench).
We ask all participants to participate fairly, meaning logging activity-related kilometres. In cases of doubt, the SZTE Alma Mater administrators may ask for additional proof of the kilometres in question, which will not be counted if refused.
We kindly ask everyone to carry out the sport activity in a responsible manner, to choose the distances and forms of exercise according to their own health and fitness, and to seek professional help and advice in case of uncertainty. SZTE Alma Mater cannot be held responsible for any injuries sustained during the challenge.
You can also share with us the kilometers achieved in other official competitions, we will count them in the challenge. Take part in the Run to the Móra (Fut a Móra), Ride to Debrecen (Tekerj te is Debrecenbe), ÁGOTA® Run - Run for Us in Szeged! (ÁGOTA® Futás – Fuss Értük Szegeden!) events and send us the kilometres too!
How to participate:
- Register on the new website of the SZTE Alma Mater: uniszegedalumni.com (Using Facebook or LinkedIn profile for registration makes the process faster)
Wait for the approval, then after logging in, find the "SZTE Let's Do This!" group and join it! - Download an app (e.g. Endomondo, STRAVA, Nike Run Club, Sport Tracker, ASICS run) to your phone or use the one you are used to.
- Choose a form of exercise!
- Start the app, than stop at the end of the activity, and save it. It's important that the kilometres you've done count, so choose a feature that makes this clear!
- Once a week, upload screenshots of the previous week to the "SZTE Let's Do This!" group on uniszegedalumni.com in a post and write next to them how many km you have done that week in total by category (walking, running, cycling, "other") and to which community ("Faculty" or " Unit") you want to donate it!
- Upload: every weekend, from Saturday 6:00 am to Monday 12:00 pm, until the 11th of June 2024. 12:00 pm! - - Everyone should upload their own individual results, we can't take into account pictures and results uploaded by others.
- Please upload your results continuously, week by week!
- You can collect kilometres in a week with several different training sessions. - Check that SZTE colleagues have correctly recorded your submitted weekly performance. If you notice a mistake, report back! If you don't hear back by Friday after uploading, contact us at almamater@szte.hu!
Rewards on top of keeping you healthy:
A guaranteed prize draw of 24 gifts for participants who regularly logged their data for at least 6 weeks, as long as they completed at least 24 kilometres during the challenge.
Special prizes will be awarded:
- The three male and female participants who cycle the most kilometres.
- The three male and female participants who run the most kilometres.
- The three male and female participants who walk the most kilometres.
- The Faculty and Unit with the most kilometres.
- The most active Faculty, i.e. the one with the most people collecting the kilometres.
Once again, we have a common goal! In addition to the individual and faculty competitions, the goal of the SZTE Alma Mater community this year is to celebrate the Nobel Prize and connect the important milestones in the life of the former student of the SZTE, the Nobel laureate Professor Katalin Karikó. For the virtual trip, we have to collect about 15,740 km together. The participants can once again support a good cause with the common goal. This year, if the common challenge is successfully completed, we will plant a "Nobel Prize" tree on behalf of the "SZTE Lépjük meg!/Let's do this!" community.
The results will be announced and drawn at the Alma Mater Weekend and Sports Day on 15. June 2024 at the SZTE Sports Centre between 10:00-12:00, while the ceremonial awarding of the common goal will take place at the IDUS (International University Sports Day) in September 2024.
Both events are expected to be attended by participants with on-site challenges and activities!
Let's step up and collect the kilometres together for SZTE!
