An unmissable part of the SZTE Alma Mater Weekend is the Gastro Mater university cooking contest. As in previous years, we invite applications from university units and groups of friends to prepare a friendly stew or barbeque and see who will win the Golden Spoon Award in 2023!

We are waiting for your registration to the following adress until 5th June: almamater@szte.hu. But sooner is better since the number of teams is limited due to the capacity of the area!

As international students you have the opportunity with your friends  to cook and present your own national dish or even try to make a Hungarian speciality.

Competition notices:

Dear participants,

Please read the following information about Gastro MATER, the university cooking contest, in order to ensure a smooth running of the competition.

The dishes will be judged by 3 judges. The winner will be awarded the "SZTE Alma Mater Golden Spoon Award" and sponsorship gifts, also in consultation with the jury, several special prizes with additional gifts will be announced.

• You can enter the competition with any food prepared over a free fire.
• We can provide the teams (10-15 persons) with the ingredients for the food to be prepared (in value 15000 HUF), as well as a cauldron and firewood (other cooking equipment must be provided by the team).

To enter the competition, you need to:

• The name of your team
• Please let us know how many people in your group would like to eat (including how many children if relevant) and whether you will bring your own cooking pots, cauldron or pans.
• Team Captain name and contact

Equipment you need to bring with you:

We recommend bringing a parasol for sun and rain protection. If you bring your own cauldron, please let us know.

Please bring an axe for chopping wood, a knife for peeling and cutting vegetables and the necessary bowls for collecting water. (If any tool is missing, please let us know in advance and we do our best to provide it.)

Please wash the cauldrons at the end of the event and return them in the same condition as before cooking (dishwashing sponge, metal scrubber and cleaning products will be provided on request).

What we provide for cooking:

• cauldron – of course you can use your own cauldron or any other cooking equipment
• cauldron stand
• subsidies for ingredients (based on advance requests, a list of optional ingredients will be available here)
• firewood (gas cooking is not allowed, to ensure equal opportunities and flavour)

Location:

The place of the cooking is the fireplace of the SZTE Sports Centre (10 Hattyas sor). A set-up for washing the cauldron and a place to draw water is located along the building next to the fireplace.

In case of light rain, the event will be held, so please bring an umbrella/parasol.

In case of heavy rain, the cooking contest will be cancelled and only central cooking will take place.
