SZTE Alma Mater organizes an event especially for international students or former students, where our guests will be Devanshi Desh, Lorenzo Marmiroli and Árvay Anett. You can hear about cultural differences, the integration processes, experiences and everything that you might be interested.

We talked with Devanshi Desh, a medical student from India who has been studying in Szeged for 2 years. Previously, she also studied and worked in the United States for a while.

What were your first impressions when you arrived here in Szeged?

I thought of Szeged as a nice, small college town. It has a good mix of local Hungarians and international students, so I think it’s a great place to study medicine.

Were there any negative experiences you faced?

Just once at the Vodafone store, where they made me wait for 3hrs even though I was the only customer in the shop. It was horrible and very clear that they were doing it on purpose.

What were the best experiences here?

Roaming around the city when the weather is nice, going to coffee shops/walks with my friends, and some really nice parties Traveled to a few places nearby with my friends like Mako and Budapest, those were great experiences too!

Could you mention some cultural differences which surprised you?

I think since I have lived outside for a while now, nothing really surprised me as such. I would say that people are not big animal lovers, as I hoped for them to be…and that during warm weather not every place is air-conditioned.
